Parkinson's speech and swallow
What happens to people with Parkinson's that they have trouble speaking and swallowing?
Well basically what happens to the rest of the body! Decreased range of motion, decreased sensory issues, and decreased strength. (Obviously quite simplified.)
Inefficient use of chest wall can lead to a decrease in breath support for speech and swallow.
Reduced cough makes it more difficult for people to cough up what goes down the wrong pipe.
These are just a few of the reasons why speech/swallow is impaired for people with Parkinson's.
